Hew is a documentary photographer whose practice has evolved through fashion, editorial portraiture and contemporary art.

He began his career as a fashion stylist, working freelance for The Sunday Times Style for three years before spending nine years with The Telegraph. During this time, he worked with figures including Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Amy Winehouse and Gwen Stefani, developing an intimate understanding of image-making and the relationship between subject, photographer and the camera.

Moving behind the lens, he went on to photograph celebrity covers for international editions of Esquire and other publications, portraying actors including Jonathan Bailey, Gemma Chan, Emma Corrin and Taron Egerton.

He later founded a gallery in East London dedicated to contemporary conceptual art, extending his engagement with visual culture beyond the photograph and into the ideas, contexts and narratives that shape how we see.

His current practice lies in documentary photography, where the emphasis shifts from the constructed image to the observed moment. Drawn to the nuances of everyday life, the character of places and the complexities of human experience, his work seeks out what exists beyond the obvious. Rather than imposing a narrative, he allows images to emerge through attention, proximity and time, finding significance in the overlooked and the ordinary.
